Low-Tech Photography The Somerville Toy Camera Festival seeks entries for its sixth annual celebration of toy and lo-fi photography. Images of any subject matter, made with a “toy” camera – any low-tech camera with no or very limited exposure control, such as pinhole, Holga, Diana/Diana clones, Brownie, Ansco, disposable cameras – are eligible. The key criteria are plastic lenses and a lack of reliable exposure control. Straight Polaroid-type images, or images made with cell phones, digital cameras, or film cameras with full exposure control (such as the Lomo LC series), will not be considered. Learn more.

Call for Artists The Piano Craft Gallery is seeking proposals for month-long exhibitions for 2019. The PCG provides an affordable exhibition space to established and emerging local, regional, and national artists in a historic building in Boston’s South End. Call For Plays The Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport, MA, is currently accepting submissions of short plays, one-act plays, and full-length plays by New England playwrights for the 16th annual New Works Festival. Submissions are given to an independent panel who select the festival’s shows in anonymous readings. Mid-Career and Emerging Poets Claremont Graduate University sponsors two awards for poets: the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award and the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. The $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Award is given annually to honor a poetry collection by a midcareer U.S. poet; the winner will also spend a week at Claremont Graduate University in California giving readings, lectures, and workshops. The $10,000 Kate Tufts Discovery Award is given annually to honor a first book of poetry by “a poet of genuine promise.” Learn more.
