Of Note: The Missing Rung: Conversations of the Aging Artist, a free event at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA, 527 Tremont Street, Boston. Panelists Kat Nasti (Boston: Kat Nasti Dance), Lisa Giobbi (NYC: Lisa Giobbi Movement Theatre, Momix, Martha Clarke) and April Sellers (Minneapolis: April Sellers Dance Collective, McNight Fellow), and Lara Tinari (Boston: Twyla Tharp and River North Dance Co) will discuss their shared experiences of loss of mobility as a dancer, artistic parenthood, navigating the artist’s career ladder and moving through life transitions. Monday, January 25th from 6:00-8:00pm.
Poets Entries are now being accepted by the Unterberg Poetry Center for the Discovery/Boston Review Poetry Contest. Four prizes of $500 each and publication in Boston Review are given annually for a group of poems. Winners also receive transportation to and lodging in New York City to give a reading at the 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center in May. TV and Radio on Aging Boston’s Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s Commission on Affairs of the Elderly invites proposals from contributors interested in presenting on either a radio show or television programs on aging. Presenting on these community media platforms (Boston Neighborhood Network, WJIB740AM, and Zumix Radio) is a positive way to make an impact on the greater Boston senior community by sharing your skills and knowledge. They invite creative proposals for thirty minute radio/T.V. segments addressing a wide variety of topics around aging such as health and wellness, jobs and community service, art making or writing, technological advances improving how we live and local history. They also invite proposals from older adults interested in sharing their vocational and/or radical life accomplishments on our show or suggestions of notable candidates living in Boston. For consideration, e-mail show producer Greg Josselyn at gregory.josselyn@boston.gov or call 617-635-4250 with a short pitch for a segment (up to 300 words) and a resume or short bio, personal website (if applicable), or nomination. Artists are especially welcome to contribute sound-based work, radio journalism, radio plays, video pieces, or time-based/performance art around themes of aging.

Open Juried Exhibition The Cape Cod Museum of Art invites visual artists residing in the US to enter its first Open Juried Exhibition, Breaking the Mold: Inspired by Innovation, with a chance to exhibit in one of the museum’s main galleries for our 35th Anniversary in the spring of 2016. Juror Mim Brooks Fawcett, Executive Director of the Attleboro Museum, Attleboro, MA will select up to 40 artworks, and will choose several pieces for awards. Experimental work, multimedia work and installations are encouraged but must fit the available space. First Novel Fellowship The 25th Annual James Jones First Novel Fellowship will be awarded to an American author of a first novel-in-progress, in 2016, by the James Jones Literary Society. The award is intended to honor the spirit of unblinking honesty, determination, and insight into modern culture exemplified by the late James Jones, author of From Here to Eternity and other prose narratives of distinction. Jones himself was the recipient of aid from many supporters as a young writer and his family, friends, and admirers have established this award of $10,000 to continue the tradition in his name. Two runners up awards of $1000 each may be given by the Jones Literary Society. Past recipients include Cam Terwilliger. Learn more.
