Call for Muralist The Boston Redevelopment Authority d/b/a Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) looks to commission a temporary artwork mural in the Mattapan neighborhood. The BPDA will coordinate and collaborate with the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture during the Call for Artists Process and selection of the design for installation after the artist or team of artist selection. Open to all artists with a strong preference for artists with a connection to Mattapan. BPDA budgeted $15,000 for the creation and installation of the mural. Call to Boston Area Artists Design competition for 2,500 sq. ft. of murals in Jamaica Plain. The Stonybrook Neighborhood Association (SNA) and SSG Development and Construction are commissioning a Boston-based artist (or artists) to design murals for a new Extra Space Storage building at 141 McBride Street in Jamaica Plain. There are two areas of the building available, so two opportunities to submit mural proposals. Applicants are welcome to apply for one or both areas by first submitting previous work. When complete, the murals will create a significant presence in the neighborhood. The SNA has assembled a 7-member jury composed of Boston arts professionals and community representatives who will select the winners. Jurors include Museum of Fine Arts curator Karen Haas and co-founder of Artists for Humanity (AFH) Rob “ProBlak” Gibbs. Prizes to be awarded: $500 for each semifinalist, $5,000 for each finalist. Visual Artists, Curators, Collectives in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Middlesex Counties Collective Futures Fund will award a yearly total of $80,000 in grant funding to collaborative and public-facing projects by visual artists, curators, and collectives across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Middlesex counties. Applications open March 30th, 2021 in the following three categories: Sustaining Practice, grants to $2,000 each geared toward emerging individual artists and collaborators who need critical support for research, to develop new projects and future ideas, and sustain themselves in the process; New Work/Project Grants, Grants up to $6,000 each to support the creation and public presentation of new work / projects by visual artists, curators, or collectives; Ongoing Platform Grants, Grants up to $6,000 each to support sustaining or the completion of long-term projects.
