Printmakers Residency Artists working in various printmaking techniques, photo-processes, book arts and digital media including video production can apply to become an Artist-in-Residence at Kala Art Institute. Residency applications are accepted online three times per year. Artists who apply for residency should be familiar with at least one of the media offered at Kala. Considerations for acceptance are conceptual creativity and technical knowledge. Kala encourages use of both traditional and new technologies, and their admixture. Learn more.

Lanterns as Art True North Gallery is seeking submissions for Lighting the Night: The Lantern As Art, a group exhibition that will run from Saturday, November 16, 2013 until Saturday, January 11, 2014. Free-standing, 3-D work based on the idea of the lantern (should be able to hold and carry light), including clay, wood, stone, glass, metal, fiber, and mixed media, are encouraged. Creative Nonfiction Entries are now being accepted for the Creative Nonfiction Essay Contest. A prize of $1,000 and publication in Creative Nonfiction is given annually for an essay on a theme. This year’s theme is “Mistakes.” The editors will judge. Submit an essay of up to 4,000 words with a $20 entry fee ($25 to receive a yearlong subscription). Exhibition/Event Proposals Sought The Howard Art Project in Dorchester has an open call for proposals at all times. If you are interested in holding an event or curating an exhibition at the Howard Art Project, send them a proposal outlining what you would like to do and when. They are interested work by local artists who are doing exciting and socially minded projects, work that exists outside the boundaries of the typical gallery, and the work of students and emerging artists, but are open-minded about all proposals.
