Call to Artists MARV, the Medford Arts Resource Vehicle, is looking for artists to present online art events during this time of social distancing. Possible events could include a demo/tutorial about your work process, an interactive art process workshop, a “behind the scenes” look at your studio or introduction to some of your art, or a talk on an art-related topic of interest to you. The event can either be held live or can be recorded to be shown at a future date.Since in-person shows, fairs and events are cancelled for the foreseeable future, this could be a fun way for you to share what you do with a larger audience, while also showing people a potentially new art medium or technique. Public Art Residency The Boston Center for the Arts has expanded their 2020-2021 Public Art Residency program to support two artists or artist teams to activate their public plaza with interactive, temporary public art. This process-oriented residency provides an opportunity for artists to experiment with their craft, develop focus, and engage in active public dialogue. We encourage residents to connect with the public not only through the completed artwork, but also throughout the process of developing and realizing the project.This year, the Public Art Residency program will support a Summer/Fall 2020 project as well as a Spring 2021 project. The Public Art Residency program is open to applicants whose work takes a broad range of forms. They encourage applicants whose practice includes: dance and movement-based aspects, theatre and writing-based aspects, and/or engagement with installation, sound, or other innovative media. Call for Art Healing Fibers, an annual non-juried art exhibit, is currently accepting work for Social Justice Stories: An Online Permanent Exhibition. Artists are invited to submit art that addresses personal stories of themselves or relatives; or art that poses a question regarding/solution to the crisis violation of human rights and threatened social justice, whilst including fiber in the artwork. Poets APR/Honickman First Book Prize of $3,000, with an introduction by the judge and distribution of the winning book by Copper Canyon Press through Consortium, will be awarded in 2021 with publication of the book in the same year. The author will receive a standard book publishing contract, with royalties paid in addition to the $3,000 prize. This year’s final judge is poet Ada Limón. The prize is open to poets who have not published a book-length collection of poems with a registered ISBN. Learn more.
