Mural Artists Maynard’s Assabet Village Cultural District has put out their first call for public art. “Maynard as a Canvas” is an initiative for mural art in our town. There are two large walls on a building that is at the gateway to Maynard. Maynard, a dynamic mill town in Massachusetts, has the distinction of being Metro West Boston’s “Most Walk-able Town”. It has received a Massachusetts Cultural District designation this spring. The Maynard Cultural Council is planning to award one or more mural artists a place to paint a creative piece(s). They intend this contest to be the first of many to place vibrant murals on buildings, which will enhance the character of the selected properties and surrounding neighborhoods. Their first location, at the intersection of Waltham and Parker Streets, serves as a gateway into the town. In your design please emphasize contemporary and abstract styles which could include trompe l’oeil imaging. Extra consideration will be given to proposals that make clever use of the building’s exterior features. Open to New England artists with previous mural painting experience. Applicants shall provide evidence of past work. Learn more.
