Call for Artists Uforge Gallery in Jamaica Plain, MA, is currently accepting entries for their exhibition Word Play. This open call to artists will include art that responds to text and linguistics. Temporary Outdoor Sculpture The Boston Art Commission, in coordination with Boston Parks and Recreation, is seeking proposals for temporary outdoor sculpture to be considered for installation in Franklin Square Park in the South End for their Sculpture in the Park 2013. These artworks will serve to engage the public in considering the relationship between art and the environment. The exhibition will run from October 19 – November 3, 2013. Compensation is available to artists. Art work will be chosen based on quality, durability and suitability for an outdoor public environment, as well as safety of the public. Learn more.

Call for Outdoor Kinetic/Inflatable Art Cotuit Center for the Arts and local rock group, 57 Heavy, are presenting The Breathing Man Festival leading up to their their Pink Floyd show Breathe on Saturday, September 14 and are seeking outdoor kinetic or inflatable art to display on the Center’s grounds for the week prior to the event. The mini-festival is a riff on the legendary Burning Man festival, but is dedicated to the element of air instead. Librettists and Lyricists Applications are now being accepted for the Kleban Award, given annually to both a librettist and a lyricist, each of whom receives $100,000, payable in 2 annual installments of $50,000. Applicants must either have had work previously produced on a stage or in a workshop performance or be or have been a member or associate of a professional musical workshop or theater group, i.e., ASCAP, BMI Theater Workshop, or the Dramatists Guild Musical Theater Development Program. Artists and Writers Residency Applications are now being accepted for the Jentel Artist Residency in Banner, WY. Residencies of an average of one month for visual artists and writers, including playwrights and screenwriters, who are 25 and older and live in the U.S. (citizenship not required). Artist Fellowships The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation is currently accepting fellowship applications. The awards are designed for advanced professionals in all fields, including the creative arts (in the field of performing arts, artists must perform their own original material to be eligible), to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions. Poets Entries are now being accepted for the Sunken Garden Poetry Prize. Established in 2002, the Prize has drawn submissions from around the country that have been judged by renowned poets such as Martha Collins, Patricia Smith and Tony Hoagland. The winner receives a $1,000 cash prize, an introductory reading at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival and publication of a chapbook published by Tupelo Press.
