Boston-area Asian and Asian American Creatives Submit work to Unbound Visual Arts New Narratives: Reclaiming Asian Identity Through Story, a virtual on-line exhibition that explores notions of Asian identity within the U.S. through the sharing of visual stories and other creative expressions of identity. Storytelling within marginalized communities is a way to reclaim identity and to allow for alternative, inter-generational perspectives that complicate and enrich our mutual understanding. They are seeking artwork that specifically addresses issues of representation within the Asian and Asian American community, in the context of identity. Both two and three-dimensional work will be considered for this online exhibition, as well as video and short-duration performance work. Call for Art The New Art Center has announced a call for art: Peaceful Protest Poster Exhibition. For more than 500 years, Protest Posters have been profound visual icons for social justice, and have served as a call to action for societal change. Poets The Inverted Syntax Sublingua Prize for Poetry awards a cash prize of $1,000 and publication in their print issue for exceptionally crafted, previously unpublished poem(s) by a writer who has not yet published a full-length manuscript nor a chapbook exceeding 44 pages. Call for Pittsfield Artists & Residents Sign up to be on the map for the first ever Drive.Walk.Bike City Art Show, taking place Friday, July 3 from 4-9 p.m. Artists can display visual art (painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, fashion, sidewalk art, video, etc.) on their porches, trees, lawns, and driveways, in their open garages, or projected onto their homes. Residents who know an artist who lives outside Pittsfield can invite them to display their work. Residents can also display the art they collect. Boston ALAANA+ artists Imagine Justice Boston is offering grants for artists of color to imagine a racially just Boston. Are you an ALAANA+ artist? (By ALAANA+ they mean: African, Latinx/a/o, Asian, Arab, Native American, Indigenous, First Peoples, Black, African American, Multi-racial, People of Color, Caribbean…) Do you live and/or work in Boston, MA? If yes, do you identify as a cultural organizer, artist activist, culture bearer, maker of things, creator of dynamic experiences? They want to support you, your creative practice, your artistic voice, and your world-building vision in collaboration with your community. Call to Artists Augusta Savage Gallery at the University of Massachusetts announces a call for entries for a juried digital art exhibition entitled Breathing While Black. The online exhibit will run from September 1 – November 30, 2020. All artists are encouraged to apply. This exhibition is a much needed response to the recent slaughter of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arberry, and Breonna Taylor by police, and subsequent protests and unrest. In the midst of frustration and fear surrounding Covid-19, and deeply divided sentiments about the upcoming presidential elections, these murders mark torrid times in our history. Call to New England Artists Beacon Gallery is producing a one-night-only event to directly provide support to visual artists from sales of their work. Gallery Owner and Director, Christine O’Donnell, is hosting a juried exhibition of small works called “Art Dash” on December 19th where artists will receive 100% of the sales. All work will be priced at $100 each. This is a true pop-up event from 6-9pm with a preview during the day from 12-6pm; sales will begin promptly at 6pm.
