Public Art Commission Apply for Cambridge’s Nineteenth Amendment Centennial Public Art Project. “The right of the citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” The City of Cambridge invites artists to submit qualifications for a $300,000 public art commission to commemorate the passage, in August 1920, of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. It granted the right to vote for women and resulted in the largest one-time addition to the American electorate, yet also left most women of color without access to the ballot box. A successful project will acknowledge the amendment’s complex history, its ongoing work in the shaping of American democracy, and the role of Cambridge women in the women’s suffrage movement. Three or four finalists will be selected by an art jury and paid to develop concept proposals for a permanent installation in Cambridge. Learn more.

Emerging Studio Artist Fellowship The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s Emerging Studio Artist Fellowship seeks to support the early professional careers of two emerging visual artists from January to June 2020. Selected artists take complementary Studio Art Classes at the MFA, work one-on-one with a mentor and receive a free one-year membership. Must be between the ages of 25-45; resides in Boston; Artists will be considered based on their creative ability and promise with a focus on diversity and economic need. Application, resume, artist statement, short essay introducing their work and why the fellowship would be beneficial, five to ten examples of work, and a letter of recommendation. Learn more.

Dance Documentation Initiative The Boston Center for the Arts has launched a Dance Documentation Initiative – a subsidized video documentation program. This will provide artists with an opportunity to adapt their work for the camera, working with the documentation team to create specific light and sound settings in an affordable and schedule-friendly environment.
