Call to Artists Essex Art Center (EAC) in Lawrence, MA, is seeking artists of all ages and abilities to take part in a bookmaking and urban exploration project, culminating in a group exhibition in January 2020, titled We went looking for crows. Participants will come to EAC to learn how to create a handmade artist book, then individually explore the city and fill the books with sketches, paintings, poetry, collages, photos, or any other kind of observation, all in response to the city’s annual migration of crows. Lawrence is one of the few cities around the country that experiences a huge influx of crows (15,000+), who come to roost from October to February. This phenomenon is a unique characteristic of the city and brings together bird enthusiasts, artists, scientists, and residents. They will host four bookmaking workshops, all materials provided by EAC. ($15 suggested donation).
