Playwrights The Cape Cod Community College’s Department of Arts and Communication is now accepting submissions for their Fall 2013 Play With Your Food series. The theatre program will continue its tradition of featuring local playwrights’ original scripts for workshop readings on four consecutive Friday evenings in late September and early October. Submissions may be full-length, one-act, or short plays suitable for simple “reading” style presentation. Works-in-progress, unpublished works, and works that can be presented with minimal costume, lighting and scenic elements are particularly encouraged. Learn more.

Free Publishing Opportunity for Writers Over 60 Grub Street, Inc. and Mayor Menino’s Memoir Project class aims to capture the stories of Boston residents over 60, by teaching the basics of memoir writing. Learning these skills will give participants a practical and meaningful way to turn memories into coherent narratives with lasting value. An essay from each participant will be published in a collected volume. The free class will run September 12-November 7 on Thursdays from 10am-1pm (with lunch provided) at the Boston Athenæum Library. No writing experience necessary. Artist Residency Fellowships The MacDowell Colony is currently accepting fellowship applications, available to artists of exceptional talent. A fellowship consists of exclusive use of a private studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for two weeks to two months. Artist Residency The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute (HBI) is now accepting applications for their 2014 Artist-in-Residence Program which provides artists the opportunity to be in residence at Brandeis University while working on a significant artistic project in the field of Jewish women’s and gender studies, and also to produce an exhibit for the Kniznick Gallery at the Women’s Studies Research Center (WSRC) at Brandeis University. The residency will be 3-4 weeks in length, and will take place in March. The exhibit will immediately follow and be on view for a minimum of 8 weeks. Learn more.
