Call to Artists The Art in Odd Places 2011: RITUAL is a festival exploring the odd, ordinary, and ingenious in the spectacle of daily life. Artists working across disciplines may submit proposed projects. Taking place October 1-10, 2011, along 14th St. from Ave. C to the Hudson River in New York City, AiOP seeks proposals that subtly disrupt the procedures of the everyday or emphasize the ritualistic character of small gestures or acts in both religious and secular life, to establish temporary moments of ecstatic contemplation in the public realm. Playwrights The John Gassner Memorial Playwriting Award, sponsored by The New England Theatre Conference is now accepting applications. The award is intended to foster new playwrights with two cash awards: $1,000 for first prize; $500 for second prize. Submit full-length scripts; no musicals. Financial Assistance for Business/Housing Assets for Artists, a collaborative program aimed at helping artists throughout Massachusetts who wish to strengthen their creative businesses or become home-owners, is inviting new applications for 2011. Grants of up to $4,000 for first-time home buyers and $1,500 for those making business-related investments will be available for “low- to moderate-income” artists. Photography Applications are now being accepted for the Photographic Resource Center’s juried competition EXPOSURE 2011. Awards will include exhibition, publication, and $500 cash. This year’s juror is Whitney Johnston, picture editor for The New Yorker. PRC’s executive director Glenn Ruga and curator George Slade will also select awards for publication in the PRC magazine Loupe and for inclusion in NEO, a monthly on-line showcase of work by regional PRC members.
