Call for Art Presenting Auxiliary Meaning is an art curation project that will showcase works around the duality of sound descriptive language. This series will be be presented in partnership with and hosted by MMMMaven an electronic music production and DJ school in Central Square, Cambridge. Auxiliary Meaning aims to inspire while provoking thought around the synesthetic intersection of visual art and music. The first installment of this series will be focused on the theme volume. We can think how loud in terms of sound can also be applied to how bright or punchy a visual is or how something quiet even muted might be seen with demure tones or appear desaturated. Learn more.

Black Poets of African Descent The Cave Canem Northwestern University Press Poetry Prize is a second-book award for black poets of African descent, offered every other year. This award of $1000 celebrates and publishes works of lasting cultural value and literary excellence. Writers Residency The Kerouac Project provides four residencies a year to writers of any stripe or age, living anywhere in the world. In the past we have accepted writers with no formal writing education alongside those with MFA’s and impressive résumés. Each residency consists of approximately a three month stay in the cottage in Florida where Jack Kerouac wrote his novel Dharma Bums. Learn more.

Legal Concerns For Filmmakers Webinar The Center for Independent Documentary offers free monthly webinars. The next in the series will discuss Legal Concerns For Filmmakers. They will be joined by entertainment attorney, Sandy Forman, who will be discussing wide ranging concerns to filmmakers such as appearance releases, rights clearances, work for hire agreements, fair use and copyright issues, and collaboration and co-production agreements. This will be an interactive session where attendees will be able to present their questions (although please keep in mind that Sandy will be unable to give specific legal advice). Call for Art The Cultural Center of Cape Cod invites artists worldwide to submit images for their Uplifting Art 2018 elevator door competition. Three images will be selected, one for each elevator door in the Cultural Center’s Education Wing. Art-in-Education Artist Book Residency The Women’s Studio Workshop is accepting applications for their Art-in-Education Artist Book Residency. The eight- to ten-week residency is awarded to two emerging women artists to create a new artist’s book and teach young people. Generally, the resident dedicates her first month to producing a limited edition artist’s book, which is handprinted and bound in the studio. WSW can provide technical advice; training on new equipment, techniques, and materials; and production assistance. During the second half of the residency, the artist works with young people in WSW’s studios, teaching one to two days/week for three to four weeks and visiting the students twice in school. Studio space and equipment is reserved for students during program hours, but artists may work at any time outside of AIE. The program provides a stipend of $350 per week for up to ten weeks, up to $750 for materials, up to $250 for travel within the continental U.S., free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access during non-AIE sessions.
