Art Projects in Melrose The Melrose Messina Fund for the Arts (MMFA) is currently accepting grant proposals from artists interested in bringing their work to the City of Melrose. The MMFA provides limited funds to arts organizations and individual artists to provide broad-based arts experiences to the citizens of the City of Melrose. Qualifying artists, projects or presenters need not be from Melrose, although the product or presentation must occur in Melrose for the benefit of the Melrose community. Ten-minute Plays City Theatre in Miami is accepting submissions of short plays (ten minutes) for its City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting. The winning play will be produced in the annual Summer Shorts festival, and the winning playwright will earn royalties, a cash prize of $1,000 and be invited to Miami for the festival. Submit one play only; plays can span style and genre. Learn more.

Fellowships Fellowships of up to $75,000 each, office space at the Radcliffe Institute, and access to the libraries at Harvard University are given annually to artists in a variety of disciplines to allow them to pursue their creative projects. The fellowship period lasts from September through May. Learn more.

New Music Projects New Music USA is funding projects that involve “new music getting out into the world through a live performance or recording.” Requests can come from individuals or organizations. To apply, create a user profile and a project page on the New Music USA Web site. Learn more.

Historical Creative Writing Fellowships The American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, MA will award at least three fellowships to creative and performing artists and writers to explore pre-20th century American history at the organization’s independent research library. The fellowships will provide monthlong residencies, which include $1,850 and optional housing (housing fee deducted from stipend), to “multiply and improve the ways in which an understanding of history is communicated to the American people.” Fellowship projects include historical novels, nonfiction, plays, poetry, documentary film, screenplays, articles, costume and set designs, sculpture, painting, and other creative endeavors with a basis in history.

Public Media Art The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and Boston Cyberarts are issuing the twelfth call for media art for display on the Marquee. The organizations are looking for 45-second videos, animations, or computer-generated works that push the creative limits of this LED sculpture. The call is limited to Massachusetts residents only. New England Artists New England artists who has not had a solo show in a commercial gallery are encouraged to apply to the Bromfield Gallery Solo 2015 Competition. This contest awards two artists a solo exhibition each in January, 2015, at Bromfield Gallery in Boston. Apply online, all media, with up to 5 jpgs ($30 fee). Boston-area Visual Artists Reminder to Boston-area artists: apply for the Artadia award. Artadia is now accepting applications for the 2014 Boston Artadia Award from all visual artists living and working throughout the metro Boston area. Individual artists and collaboratives working in all media and at any stage in their career are strongly encouraged to apply. Awardees will be selected through a two-tiered jury process that employs a panel of prominent curators and established artists in the fall of 2014. Learn more.

Poets The Sunken Garden Chapbook Poetry Prize includes a cash award of $1,000 in addition to publication by Tupelo Press, 25 copies of the winning title, a book launch, and national distribution with energetic publicity and promotion. Northeast Artists The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) seeks submissions for Open Call: NNE (North-Northeast), a juried exhibition open to artists in the six New England states and New York. Open Call: NNE will showcase dozens of artists with 1-4 works each. The exhibition dates are January 10–February 7, 2015.
