Call to Action: The Massachusetts House of Representatives are scheduled to debate H. 4219, a $3.65 billion spending package investing in Massachusetts’ workers, industries, and communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Most importantly, this bill invests $125 million into the cultural sector, through Mass Cultural Council, and directs the Agency to develop new grant programs to assist artists and nonprofit, municipal, and for-profit cultural organizations to operate more efficiently and aid in recovery from the pandemic. Rep. Dylan Fernandes has filed an amendment, #109, to raise this appropriation to $175M. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENATIVE TODAY AND URGE THEM TO SUPPORT AND CO-SPONSOR AMENDMENT #109. This is a timely advocacy alert as the House will debate this legislation and vote on amendments on Thursday.

Artist Residency The Goethe-Institut Boston invites artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, and other creatives, including institutions in civil society, to submit proposals for a Studio 170 residency in 2022. Successful applicants will realize their proposed projects in their newly-renovated space in Back Bay. The Goethe-Institut Boston opens its unique, flexible space in Back Bay to artists and creative minds as a “laboratory” for ideas. Beyond just another gallery or concert hall, Studio 170 provides an open, lively place for inspiration, experimentation and open discourse. Nonfiction Mediamakers The Sundance Institute | Humanities Sustainability Fellowship is open to individuals at all phases of their careers producing and/or directing humanities-focused feature-length documentary films, nonfiction audio/podcast projects, and nonfiction emerging media. Selected mediamakers will receive monthly stipends of $5,000 per month over the course of 12 months.
