Mass Cultural Council is honored to announce the 2018 Artist Fellowship awards in Choreography, Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and Painting. The awards include 19 fellowships of $12,000, and 17 finalist awards of $1,000. See a list of this year’s fellows and finalists, to date.
The awards are anonymously judged, based solely on the artistic quality and creative ability of the work submitted. Applications were open to all eligible Massachusetts artists. A total number of 1189 applications were received: 60 in Choreography, 551 in Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and 578 in Painting.
The Choreography panelists were Andrea Blesso Albuquerque, Shoni Currier, Alison Manning, and Sara L Smith. The Fiction/Creative Nonfiction panelists were Jim Hicks, Hester Kaplan, Ilan Stavans, and Grace Talusan. Dena Afrasiabi, Howard Axelrod, Susan Bernhard, Mollie Boutell, Tyrese Coleman, Jane Dykema, Anjali Enjeti, Heather Kamins, Sheba Karim, Kelly Luce, Shubha Sunder, and Vu Tran served as first-round readers. The Painting panelists were Nicole Duennebier, Masako Kamiya, Dominic Molon, and Roger Hankins. Abigail Satinsky served as a first-round reader.
This is the second series of Artist Fellowships awards to be given by Mass Cultural Council in 2018. In January 2018, Mass Cultural Council announced awards in Drawing & Printmaking, Poetry, and Traditional Arts.
