Our friends at Cultural Pittsfield passed along a call to artists for a juried show, Melville Contemporary, to exhibit at Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in August and September. The exhibition is in conjunction with Call Me Melville, a summer-long celebration of Herman Melville’s work and life in the Berkshires – where he dreamed up lines like “I would prefer not to” and “Call me Ishmael,” writing Bartleby the Scrivener, Moby Dick, and other works.
The submitted art should be paintings, mixed media, sculpture, or other media, and the works should relate to Melville’s life and writings. In the interest of a well-rounded representation of Melville’s oeuvre, work inspired by writings other than Moby Dick is especially encouraged.
The deadline for submission is July 30, 2012. Find guidelines and submission instructions.
