Poets with First Books The Walt Whitman Award brings first-book publication, a cash prize of $5,000, and a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center to an American who has never before published a book of poetry. The winning manuscript, chosen in 2014 by Rae Armantrout, is published by Louisiana State University Press. The Academy purchases copies of the book for distribution to its members. Learn more.

Project Support Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF) is accepting letters of inquiry for project support. BRAF gives grants to individual artists, artist collectives or organizations highly interactive, community-driven works of art that prioritize community involvement in their development, execution and display. Artist Fellowships A Blade of Grass (ABOG) in NYC is currently offering one-year fellowship for individual artists and collectives that create socially engaged art. Fellowships pair project support of $20,000 with strategic support, assessment tools, video documentation, access to facilities and other tailored resources for socially engaged artists. Temporary Public Art Arlington Parks and Recreation in coordination with Arlington Public Art and Arlington Center for the Arts, is seeking proposals for temporary outdoor sculptures to be considered for installation in Menotomy Rocks Park near Arlington Center. These artworks will serve to engage the public in considering the relationship between art and the environment. The exhibition area will be on the lawn up to the pond facing Jason Street. Playwrights Sea Change Theatre Company in Beverly is currently accepting submissions for their second annual playwrighting contest. Submissions must be non-produced and may be in any form including full length, one act, children’s show, adaptions, musicals, and the avant garde. They enjoy deep, rich plays, that will engage the New England Audience. $10 for each submission. Winner will receive $100, be given a performance as part of their regular season, and be highlighted in the playwright section of their website. Hard-copy submissions only. Include a cover letter with your script that includes: your full contact information, a short synopsis of the play, a playwrights biography.
