News and Notes from MCC Artist Fellows
We compile a monthly list of presentations, honors, publications, and events featuring past and present MCC Artist Fellows & Finalists. As you’ll see, the news is good – not just about these award-winning artists, but also about the breadth and vitality of contemporary arts throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

We received this update from Monica Raymond (Playwriting/New Theater Works Finalist ’07, Poetry Finalist ’08): “As part of a benefit for Theatre Unbound, a woman’s theatre in Minneapolis, I participated in their 24 Hour Play Festival this February 6th and 7th. My co-writer, Toni Halleen and I were one of six teams who wrote ten-minute plays all night February 6th and saw them performed the evening of February 7th. Plays had to include specified things including the song It’s Raining Men, the emotion of nostalgic lust, and a laundry dryer sheet. Our piece The Winston Will featured a struggling mother and daughter, an aggressive cleaning lady, a wildly obtrusive cell phone, and a lawyer trying to keep it all together. Also, my riff on a poem by David Ferry, Ashes and Dirt, appears online in the recent issues of protestpoems.org and babelfruit.org.
Allan Reeder (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’06) is reading with poet Daniel Bosch and playwright Ronan Noone on Saturday, March 28, at 7 PM, in the Keiter Center at Walnut Hill School in Natick.

The award is a $10,000 prize for a writer age 35 or younger for a novel or a collection of short stories. Salvatore’s novel The End, a finalist for the National Book Award, was published this past July. Read our interview with Salvatore.
Pleasure Dome, a solo exhibition of work by Laurel Sparks (Painting Fellow ’04) shows at the Howard Yezerski Gallery in Boston, through March 10. (Read a review of the show in the Boston Phoenix.)
