News and Notes from MCC Artist Fellows
Don’t miss En Mass, which features 2007 Sculpture/Installation fellows, presented by Boston Sculptors Gallery. The exhibition includes work by Alan Colby, Peggy Diggs, Matthew Hincman, Ariel Kotker, and Nick Rodrigues, and runs through June 22. The opening reception is on June 6 (First Friday), 6-9 PM. Work by Marguerite White (Drawing Fellow ’06) and Matt Brackett (Painting Fellow ’04) is on display in the 2008 DeCordova Annual Exhibition at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln. The exhibit, which features work by 12 different artists/collaborations, features work in a variety of media and will show through August 17. David Bookbinder (Photography Fellow ’07) will exhibit in a two-person show in the Atelier Gallery of the Griffin Museum of Photography. The show, running in conjunction with the Griffin’s 14th Annual Juried Exhibition, opens June 5 with an artists’ talk for museum members at 6:15 PM.
Michal Goldman’s (Film & Video Fellow ’07) At Home in Utopia, fresh from showing at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, shows this month (and the months ahead) as part of the Boston Jewish Film Festival’s Encore series. Beginning June 12 are screenings at the Boston Musuem of Fine Arts and the Martha’s Vineyard Jewish Film Festival.
The Last Word Writers Reading Series will feature poet Michael Hoerman (Poetry Fellow ’04) and North Shore poets and writers in Beverly on June 27. Michael Hoerman, Rod Kessler, Sarah Getty, Jennifer Jean, and Laurette Viteritti, with singer-songwriter Rachel McCartney, will read and perform their work at Monet’s Garden Cafe at the Red Brick Art Center, 8 PM. These monthly readings organized by Jean and Viteritti provide a platform for emerging writers to share their work with peers and the community at large in Beverly’s Arts District.
Liza Johnson (Film & Video Finalist ’03, ’07) has been selected to participate in Sundance Directors Lab for her narrative feature Return this June. Bravo!
Francie Lin’s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’06) new novel The Foreigner has just been released. Francie will read, along with novelist Scott Heim, at Newtonville Books on Thurs., June 26, 7 PM, as part of Newtonville’s funky Books & Brews series. And on July 24, 7 PM, she’ll join former Ploughshares editor Don Lee at a reading at NYC’s Asian American Writers Workshop.
