Two Calls from Big Red and Shiny The Editors of the web-based art journal Big Red and Shiny have issued two calls. 1. The journal is seeking previously unpublished submissions from writers, academics, artists, historians, critics, and theorists to create course syllabi for an upcoming series focused on the practice of teaching art. Potential topics include: the pragmatics of being a practicing artist while teaching art; the pedagogical approaches needed for teaching time-¬based or new media work; teaching art in multiple institutional settings; and the experience of being a teaching assistant. Learn more. 2. The journal is seeking previously unpublished, long-form essays, averaging 3000-5000 words, by writers who investigate how art can function. Parallel to these essays is an interest in fostering author-artist collaborations that combine original texts with multimedia contributions (video, audio, photography, animation). Learn more.

Public Art The Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston has announced a request for proposals from artists to create engaging public art around the 2016 Chinese Zodiac, Year of the Monkey, as part of an ongoing series in Chinatown Park in downtown Boston. Project budget for this installation is $18,000, and is inclusive of all costs of installation/de-installation, permits, site restoration, and transportation. The selected artist will receive a $4,000 stipend in addition to the project budget. Learn more.
