Fellows Notes is a monthly listing of the latest news from awardees in our Artist Fellowships Program.
Allison Cekala and Mary Bucci McCoy are both exhibiting in Landfall, in collaboration with the Montserrat College of Art and the Rocky Neck Artist Colony. The show takes place at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck in Gloucester (thru 11/18).
Candice Smith Corby, Sheila Gallagher, and Douglas Weathersby join Isabel Riley in the exhibition Elevated at Very Gallery in Boston (thru 11/10).
Nicole Duennebier, Asia Kepka, Rachel Mello, and Mary O’Malley are all exhibiting in Plenty at 13Forest Gallery in Arlington (11/17-1/11, opening reception 11/17, 4-6 PM).
Anne Neely and Jo Ann Rothschild are both exhibiting work in the 535 Albany Street Open Studios in Boston (11/2).

Kati Agocs will have the Boston Premiere of her composition Queen of Hearts when the Claremont Trio performs it at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (11/11, 1:30 PM).
S.A. Bachman co-created a mobile billboard that is part of the national traveling project Women on the Move. The billboard was exhibited in public spaces throughout Boston at the end of October. Women on the Move is affiliated with the For Freedoms platform for creative civic engagement, discourse, and direct action.
Sarah Bliss had several film screenings last month, as part of Transient Visions, Festival of the Moving Image at Spool Contemporary Art Space in New York, and in AXW, Another Experiment by Women Festival at Anthology Film Archives in New York City.
Paul Chojnowski is part of the group exhibition Landscapes: Capturing the View at the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson NY (11/17-1/6, reception 11/10, 5-7 PM).
Janet Echelman’s public artwork As If It Were Already Here is one of the finalists for the 2018 Harleston Parker Medal. The award, which recognizes “the single most beautiful building or other structure” built in Greater Boston over the last 10 years, is sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects and the City of Boston.
Rebecca Kaiser Gibson has launched a new poetry reading series, The Loom: Poetry in Harrisville. The inaugural event features Joan Houlihan and Peter Covino at the St. Denis Church in Harrisville, NH (11/11, 5:30 PM).
Basia Goszczynska has launched a crowdfunding campaign through Fractured Atlas to support a project exploring plastic pollution, global warming, and the remote Kamilo beach in Hawaii.
Poet Michael Hoerman will read at Nightbird Books in Fayetteville, AR (11/27, 7 PM), hosted by The Ozark Poets and Writers Collective.
Catherine Kernan is co-author of the new book Singular & Serial: Contemporary Monotype and Monoprint. In the book, which has a Spring publication, the artist explains the processes and motivations for making singular prints, as well as current practice and context. The artist is leading monotype/monoprint workshops at New Art Center (11/17), Mixit Print Studio (12/1-12/2), and Georges Garage in York, ME (1/26).
Ann Kim’s film with Priya Desai, Lovesick, recently screened at the Jio MAMA Mumbai Film Festival, where is won a special award for Discovering India. Next month, it will screen at the Global Health Film Festival in London (12/6).
Congratulations to Mira T. Lee, who has been nominated for two Goodreads Choice Awards: Best Debut Author of 2018 and Best Fiction of 2018, for her novel Everything Here Is Beautiful.
Julie Mallozzi’s documentary film Circle Up will screen at the Capitol Theater as part of the Arlington International Film Festival (11/3, 6:55 PM).
Rania Matar has a solo exhibition, In Her Image: Photographs by Rania Matar, at the Cleveland Museum of Art (thru 1/13/2019). She will participate in the related panel discussion From Girlhood to Womanhood (11/16, 7-9 PM). Galerie Tanit will exhibit her photographs at the Paris Photo art fair. The artist’s exhibition Da Donna a Donna (From Woman to Woman) at c|e Contemporary in Milan was recently featured in Vogue Italia.
Paul Matteson joins Jennifer Nugent for the two-person Boston Premiere of the two-person dance work another piece apart at the Dance Complex in Cambridge (11/17-11/18). The artists will also lead a series of workshops.
Adam Mazo’s film with Ben Pender-Cudlip, Dawnland, has its national broadcast premiere on Independent Lens on PBS (11/5, 10 PM EST). Among its upcoming screenings is a showing in the Bright Lights Film Series at the Paramount Center (11/1, 7 PM). A Blu-Ray/DVD of the film is now available for pre-order.
Caitlin McCarthy is a contributor to the essay anthology Idol Talk and will participate in a reading event at the Worcester Public Library (11/3, 2-4 PM).
Mary Bucci McCoy, along with exhibiting in Landfall at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck (thru 11/18), is exhibiting in the three-person show Color Affinities at Key Projects Art Space in Long Island City, NY (thru 11/11).
Congratulations to Evan Morse, who received a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the Dexter Jones Award from the National Sculpture Society conference in South Carolina. He recently worked on a sculpture of Revolutionary War hero Ann Story in Rutland, VT and completed a residency at Vermont Studio Center.
Anne Neely is participating in the 535 Albany Street Open Studios (11/2, 5-8 PM). She is the featured artist in the November edition of the literary journal AGNI. Her painting Bloom (from the 2014 Water Stories exhibition at the Museum of Science Boston) has been acquired for the permanent collection at Old Dominion University and will be part of the opening exhibition of the new Barry Art Museum in Norfolk, VA.
January Gill O’Neil has published a new poetry collection, Rewilding, with CavanKerry Press. Read an interview with the poet on ArtSake.
Rachel Perry has a solo show, Halos, at Yancey Richardson in Chelsea New York (thru 12/8). She’s showing a new body of work created during her artist residency at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. This month, Yancey Richardson will also show some of the artist’s new work in Paris Photo. She is among the artists with postcard-sized artworks in Another World, an exhibition curated by artist Tracey Emin, in partnership with Deutsche Bank, to celebrate the centenary of women gaining the right to vote. The artist’s work is included in the exhibition Shop It! at Haifa Museum in Israel (thru 1/20/2019). The artist was recently featured in the podcast Think.Do.Lead, with Katherine Bergeron, president of Connecticut College.
Abraham Ravett’s recent film Holding Hands with Ilse will screen at York University in Toronto (11/5, 6 PM). Several of the artist’s short 16mm films will screen at PIX Film Gallery in Toronto (11/6, 7 PM).
Jenine Shereos participated in an artist residency at La Maison Verte in France, during which she created a series of ephemeral installations using flowers collected nearby. The artist is publishing a photography book featuring a series of photos documenting the installations. She’s currently fundraising the project on IndieGoGo, including pre-orders for the book. She plans to publish the book in December.
Karl Stevens recently had a cartoon featured by The New Yorker.
Naoe Suzuki joins Lynda Schlosberg for the two-person show Elemental at 13Forest Gallery in Arlington (thru 11/9). She’s also among the artists exhibiting Crossing Boundaries: Art / /Maps at the Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library (thru 4/20/2019). Helena Wurzel joins Crystal Lacouture in the two-person exhibition So Wild and Blue at Isenberg Projects in Brookline (11/7-12/15, opening reception 11/7, 5:30-8:30 PM).
Vladimir Zelevinsky’s latest full-length play The Great Seduction is opening in November at the West End Players Guild in St. Louis, MO.
