It’s March: in like a lion, out like a much less snowy lion (hopefully).
Here’s the latest news/notes from MCC Fellows and Finalists.
Mary Lum and Rachel Perry Welty are both exhibiting in the Yancey Richardson Gallery booth at the Armory Show in NYC (3/5-3/8).
Nathalie Miebach, Cristi Rinklin, and Michelle Samour, are exhibiting in a three person show called Nature Tech at Fitchburg Art Museum (3/9-6/7, opening reception 3/8, 1-3 PM, artists’ talks 3/22, 1:30 PM).
Jendi Reiter‘s new poetry collection Bullies in Love is being published by Little Red Tree Publishing. The collection integrates photographic art by Toni Pepe. The book launch, with poetry reading and photography exhibit, will be at the Forbes Library in Northampton (3/7, 2-4 PM).
Jill Slosburg-Ackerman and August Ventimiglia are both exhibiting in Excavations at the New Art Center (3/22-5/9), as part of NAC’s Curatorial Opportunity Program.

Elizabeth Alexander is exhibiting in a dual show with Alicia Renadette called Merged at Mill no. 5 in Lowell (3/14-3/29, an opening reception featuring “edible art, soundscape, and surprises” with “formal attire optional” takes place 3/14, 3-6 PM, and a panel discussion moderated by the artists takes place 3/25, 6:30-8:30 PM, in the Luna Theater).
Kelly Carmody will be exhibiting a selection of paintings and drawings, Kelly Carmody: Deeper Sense at the Walter Feldman Gallery, a new exhibition space for the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (3/2-4/7, opening reception 3/5, 5:30-7:30 PM).
Jay Critchley will have a 30+ year survey of his work at the Provincetown Art Association & Museum, in May/June.
Janet Echelman is creating a new work of public art for Boston’s Rose Kennedy Greenway, and BostInno recently imagined what the project could look like.
Christy Georg is currently an artist-in-residence at de Fabriek in Eindhoven, the Netherlands working with four other artists toward the exhibition 27 Below which opens March 20. She’s also in the group exhibitions Primo Lane at Outpost Projects in California (thru 5/24), Axle Indoors at Peters Projects in Santa Fe (thru 3/21) and 20 Cubed at Platz Gallery in Albuquerque (thru 3/27).
Magdalena Gomez is one of the three writers (with Robbie McCauley and Kate Snodgrass) presenting work as part of Badass by Sleeping Weazel, at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre (3/5-3/14).
Sean Greene organized and is exhibiting in Infinity Mirror along with Xylor Jane, Gary Petersen, Nichole Van Beek, and Warren Isensee, at Herter Gallery, UMass Amherst (thru 4/2). Recently, the artist created an indoor mural at the Facebook Offices in Cambridge. Also, he has a painting in Our First Show at Seen Gallery in Pawtucket RI (thru 3/8) and recently exhibited in The Book Show at Taber Art Gallery at Holyoke Community College.
Ariel Kotker‘s installation His Room as He Left It will be exhibited for one night only at Find and Form Space in Boston (3/6, 6-8 PM).
Holly Lynton will have her first Miami solo exhibition at Dina Mitrani Gallery (3/12-5/2, opening reception 3/12, 6-9 PM, artist talk at 7 PM).
Rania Matar is exhibiting in Art on Paper in New York City (3/5-3/8), part of the Richard Levy Gallery show at Booth 411.
Nathalie Miebach, along with exhibiting at the Fitchburg Art Museum (see above), will be giving a talk at the Newburyport Art Association on 3/14, 3 PM, in conjunction with the exhibition Storm Surge (3/6-3/28). She also has a piece at the President’s Gallery at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, in a show called Gaining Perspectives: A Visual History of MassArt (thru 3/20).
Sally B. Moore has a solo show, Reroute/Reroot, at Barbara Krakow Gallery (3/21-4/25, opening reception 3/21 3-5 PM, Artist Talk 4/11, 3 PM).
Cecelia Raker will premiere her full-length play Dry Bones Rising with Venus Theatre in Laurel, MD, in May/June. She will also have a reading of that play with One Bird Productions in NYC (4/5).
Monica Raymond wrote the libretto for the short opera WH2O (Doug Opel, composer), which will have a concert performance at goodthangpassing, a new music festival at Arts at Armory in Somerville (4/3, 9 AM-4 PM). Performers are Raymond Chao (piano) and Jared Hettrick, Lawson Daves, and Samantha Dearborn.
Jieun Shin has a solo exhibition of new work, Jieun Shin: Flora and Schema, at the Herter Gallery of UMass Amherst (thru 4/2).
Congratulations to Karen Skolfield, who won the 2015 Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America.
Mara Superior has a solo exhibition, A Porcelain Menagerie, at the Clark Gallery in Lincoln (3/10-3/31, opening reception 3/14, 4-6 PM).
Jonathan Weinert was named a Finalist for the 2015 Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America.
