Of Note: The Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD) is inviting Massachusetts residents, ages 18 and over, of all abilities, to submit to our 2017 Call for Art and juried art exhibition entitled “Breaking Barriers.” The barriers persons with disabilities sometimes encounter are not only physical, but also societal. A central purpose in holding this exhibition will be to showcase the talent of our Commonwealth residents and to present works to the public that will raise awareness of and challenge the barriers and stigma that persons with disabilities often encounter. Call to Artist Viridian Artists in New York City is inviting professional artists in any media to submit to its 28th annual international juried exhibition. The juror for this competition is Susan Thompson, Assistant Curator at the Guggenheim Museum. Learn more.

Call to Artists The Mass Audubon Moose Hill Gallery has extended their deadline for submissions on the upcoming juried exhibit, Spring Awakenings. The emergence, drama and magic of spring is viewed and perceived in a myriad of ways. Share your insight and artistic inspiration of the natural world reawakening through your artwork. Let your creative expressions and interpretations reveal this rebirth in this nature theme. The exhibit will run April 7 –June 19, 2017. Any medium is acceptable for the show, artists are invited to submit up to five 8”x10” photo prints of images intended for the exhibit, not matted or framed, for judging purposes only. All prints must be labeled on the back with contact information, dimensions, title, and medium. Entry fee is $15; provide a stamped return envelope if you would like your photos returned. Craft Artists Exhibition, Award Every other year, the Society of Arts & Crafts awards $3,000 each to three craft artists living in New England. The award winners will comprise a three-person exhibition opening this summer at our new home. This is a juried, merit-based award, yet we do take other elements into consideration. Call for Artists Waterbury Arts Fest (WAF), held July 15, 2017 is seeking artists from throughout New England for its one-day arts festival held in historic, downtown Waterbury, VT, for the past sixteen years. Art vendors set up along the closed Stowe Street and Bidwell Lane and are chosen for quality and range of art mediums. Artists work includes fine art painting, pottery, fiber, weaving, glasswork, baskets, jewelry, woodwork and sculpture. A mainstage has performances staggered throughout the day. Learn more.

Call for Artists and Designers The City of Salem seeks proposals from artists and designers interested in creating site-responsive public art installations in the heart of downtown Salem during the summer/fall of 2017. Artists and designers working in any media, including light, sound, or other multimedia, are encouraged to submit proposals. The City is particularly interested in installations that have an impact when viewed across the site and that are effective at night as well as during the day. Three sites for the public art project have been chosen to celebrate the urban environment and create a pathway through locations in the downtown. Artists may apply for one, two or three sites. Chamber Music Commission Chamber Music America, the national network of ensemble music professionals, offers support to U.S.-based classical/contemporary ensembles, presenters and festivals for commissioning American composers to create new chamber works. CMA’s Classical Commissioning Program grants are made for commissioning fees, copying costs and ensemble rehearsal honoraria. Compositions must be written for small ensembles (2 to 10 musicians) performing one to a part, and may represent a diverse musical spectrum, including contemporary art music, world music, and works that include electronics. Commission fees range from $5,000 to $20,000. Applicants must be Chamber Music America members at the Organization level. The new composition must be performed by the ensemble a minimum of three times in the U.S. Learn more.  Webinars for grant applicants will take place on March 9 and 21 at 1:00 PM (Eastern). Crafts Mentor Program 2017 CraftBoston Mentor Program Emerging Craft Artists The Society of Arts and Crafts’ Mentor Program prepares emerging artists for the world of premier craft shows by having participants train with professional artists on marketing, legal and insurance issues, show operations, portfolio development, pricing, sales, and booth design, culminating in the realization of a group booth at the 2017 CraftBoston Holiday Show at the Hynes Convention Center. Upon completion of the Year 1 program, participants will be invited to reapply to return for the Year 2 program, which includes a subsidized solo booth at CraftBoston Holiday.
