Of Note: The next general meeting of the New England New Play Alliance will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 7 PM, at the StageSource offices. The meeting will include discussion of past events as well as potential future projects, including the next big new play audience data gathering project. The group seeks to grow audiences for new plays, encourage more new play development and production, and spread the word outside of Boston about plays/playwrights from Greater Boston/New England. Drawing DRAWN, a juried exhibition at George A. Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, Missouri. Approximately 30 works will be selected for exhibition in Spiva’s Main Gallery. Part invitational, part call for entry, DRAWN is exclusively a drawing show to celebrate experimentation while reminding viewers of the basic nature and value of the drawing process. Artists are asked to submit works in any media relevant to the practice (including non-traditional approaches), in any style or any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realistic, etc.). Call to Artists Webster Arts in Webster Groves, MO, is accepting entries for Freedom of Expression, an exhibit exploring themes of censorship, bigotry, free speech, racism, and speaking truth to power found in the play “Alabama Stories,” which will be presented by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. The play and exhibit will be presented concurrently, sharing audiences. Images of the work in the exhibit will be projected in the lobby of the theatre before the performances and during intermission. The theatre and gallery are a few blocks apart. Artist’s Book Residency Grant The Women’s Studio Workshop is currently accepting entries for their Artist’s Book Residency Grant which includes a six- to eight-week residency for artists to produce a limited edition book work. The grant includes a stipend of $350/week, up to $750 for materials, up to $250 for travel within the Continental US, free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access. WSW can provide technical advice; training on new equipment, techniques, and materials; and production assistance. Working intensively in their studios, artists print and bind their own books, and are encouraged to create an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50. Learn more.

Filmmakers The Miller/Packan Film Fund supports documentaries that Educate, Inspire and Enrich. Each year, grants totaling $200,000 are awarded to between eight and twelve filmmakers. Emerging Writers Fellowships Applications are currently being accepted for the Wallace Stegner Fellowships; ten two-year fellowships, five in poetry and five in fiction, given annually to allow emerging writers to develop their craft in workshops with senior faculty members at Stanford University. Art in All Media Wheaton College has issued an open call for Brush Coat Cover, its 4th biennial held at the Beard and Weil Galleries February and March 2019. The call invites artists working in all media whose work challenges, explores, and celebrates the definition and history of painting as an artistic medium. Cade Tompkins is the juror. Poets The 2019 Frost Place Chapbook Competition is now open for submissions. In summer 2019, the winner’s chapbook will be published by Bull City Press, and the winner will receive 10 complimentary copies (from a print run of 300), and a $250.00 stipend. The winner will also receive a full fellowship to attend the five-and-a-half-day Poetry Seminar at The Frost Place in August 2019, including room and board (a cash value of approximately $1,500.00), and will give a featured reading from the chapbook at the Seminar. In addition, the chapbook fellow will have the option to spend one week living and writing in The Frost Place House-Museum in fall 2019 (peak leaf season in the White Mountains), at a time agreed upon by the fellow and The Frost Place.
